Welcoming your human

The ‘Meet Your Shadow’ retreat is all about YOU. You as a whole human who happens to work as a coach.

Why?

Because the better you know yourself - your blindspots, dark corners and unconscious triggers - the better you’ll be able to respond more CREATIVELY and more CONGRUENTLY with the clients you work with, in the moment.

Our clients need us to encompass a full range, so we can stay open, receptive and curious with the often complex challenges they bring. Understanding what patterns, narratives or shadow pressures limit us or close us down when in relationship with the other is therefore vital to our work as coaches.

To quote Simon Cavicchia in ‘The Theory and Practice of Relational Coaching’:

“The coaches own internal world, life experience, range and breath will have a direct bearing on the ways in which he interacts with his clients… Coaches need to be aware of their own limitations and become aware of blind spots and their own shadow, so that this is not projected onto the coachee and the coaching relationship.
A need for approval, desire to win more work, wish to be seen an expert and anxiety related to reputation can all result in coaches, subtly and not so subtly, exerting pressure on their clients to be and experience what the coach thinks is needed for the coaches own purposes.”

Our clients will experience trust in us through an intuitive sense that our way of being and our words match up. Understanding that our self is fluid, complex and co-created in relationship, means that we need to track when our inner parts may pull us out of congruence and into our own history or unhelpful adaptions.

Simon Cavicchia again:

“The sense of our presence and our way of being with the coachee will be as important as the words we speak. The coachee will have an intuitive embodied sense of the congruence between these two levels of their experience of the coaching.”

In short, understanding who you are has a hugely beneficial impact on how you coach, and can enrich the experience for you and your clients.

So if:

- you’re looking to deepen your understanding of who you are;

- you believe that we can only meet another as deep as we’ve met ourselves;

- you want to increase the range and creativity of your coaching approach;

- AND you want to earn 16 CCEs in the process…
